Prompt engineering is the practice of structuring instructions, context and examples supplied to a language model so that it produces accurate, consistent and appropriately formatted output.

Reliable techniques include stating the task explicitly, supplying worked examples, specifying output format, and giving the model room to reason before answering.

Prompting is empirical work. Without an evaluation set, changes that feel like improvements are indistinguishable from changes that are not.
